This classic knitted hat and mitt set is a great project for everyone on your list. The hat is worked in stockinette from the bottom up, with wide ribbing and an optional pompom. (But why would you skip the pom pom!?) Mittens are worked from the cuff, with somewhat unusual thumb gusset shaping.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:

Hat: (16¾, 19¼)" / (42.5, 49) cm around x (9, 9½)" / (23, 24) cm high (not including pompom) Shown in size 16¾" / 42.5 cm.

Mittens: (7¼, 8)" / (18.5, 20.5) cm around x (9¾, 10½)" / (25, 26.5) cm long (length is adjustable).

Shown in size 7¼" / 18.5 cm.

MATERIALS:

Hat: 2 skeins of Berroco Talara, shown in #7331 Arequipa,

Mittens: 1(2) skein(s) of Berroco Talara, shown in #7331 Arequipa.

For Hat:
16" / 40 cm circular needles, sizes 6 / 4 mm and 8 / 5 mm or size to obtain gauge
1 set double-pointed needles (or preferred needles for working small circumferences), size 8 / 5 mm
Stitch markers (1 a different color for BOR) Tapestry needle 3" / 7.5 cm pompom maker
